The mighty Obake announce tour dates

11 Apr

When we last heard from Obake it was around the release of their acclaimed self titled release last Autumn. Now they make a most triumphant return with the realisation of their sound live in venues across continental Europe including the notable Asymmetry Festival. Joining them to fulfil this live ambition will be Trevor Dunn on bass bringing his unique style to the band.

Here are some more words about Obake’s debut release:

OBAKE is a word which refers to a class of Yokai, Japanese preternatural creatures, and whose strict translation is “A Thing That Changes” or “Shapeshifter” but is often also loosely taken to mean “Ghost” or “Ghost of a deceased human being”. It is also the name of the band formed by Zu bass-player Massimo Pupillo, experimental guitarist and producer Eraldo Bernocchi, opera, experimental singer Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari and Hungarian drummer Balazs Pandi.

Obake represents the meeting point of four impressive strands of musicianship and four remarkable careers spanning very diverse genres of music, careers which include performances alongside a variety of renowned musicians such as Mike Patton, Justin Broadrick, Bill Laswell and Merzbow.

Also the name of their self-titled debut, Obake is the place where the energies of Doom and Drone Metal fuse with ambient electronica, noise, the exactness of math-rock, the groove of blues undercurrents harking back to the dawn of hard-rock and the fluid lyrical delivery and musings of a commanding operatic voice. Obake build on the foundations of these different genres and creatively meld them with expert precision, the amalgam of musical elements come together most aptly on the tracks ‘Human Genome Project’ and ‘The Omega Point’, both of which can be sampled on the Rare Noise Jukebox http://www.rarenoiserecords.com/jukebox/obake/obake/

Imposing in its darkness, encompassing in its beauty and always powerful, Obake is a captivating listen from start to end and a highly impressive debut. A record that will surely appeal to fans of Sunn 0))), Popul Vuh, Ashra Tempel as much as Slayer, Melvins and Coil.

Possessed By The Rise Of Magik LP – Ramflesh Remix

5 Mar

Rarely Unable HQ snd Ritual Productions are bursting with grim joy to announce that Ritual have recruited the crushing skills and expertise of none other than Justin Broadrick (Godflesh/ Jesu /Greymachine / Final/JK Flesh) to mix Ramesses’ 2011 release ‘Possessed By The Rise Of Magik’ exclusively for this vinyl release!

Justin’s remixes enhance the audio with his uniquely dark and affecting musical perspective whilst maintaining the true essence of the original recordings. The way remixes should be. All in all, supremely magik.

Do we really need to say both Ritual Productions and Ramesses are extremely pleased with the result?

Release date to be announced in due course but all parts are already at pressing plant.

Justin Broadrick announced JK Flesh album for April

26 Jan

Godflesh, Head of David, Napalm Death, Techno Animal, Jesu, Greymachine, Palesketcher – just some of the projects from the insanely prolific Justin Broadrick, who in his new relationship with 3by3, raises his Techno Animal moniker JK Flesh from the dead, to once again prove his mastery of all things brutal.

This new record certainly resembles the darker side of Broadrick’s sound (circa Techno Animal, Godflesh and Greymachine) but simultaneously contextualises this within the unfamiliar turf of the post-dubstep/industrial canon pushed by 3by3, finding a fitting home in the process.

JK Flesh will be appearing at 2012′s Roadburn festival as part of Broadrick’s ‘Artist In Residency’ where fans can hear the material ahead of release on April 30th.

More detailed information will follow in the coming weeks.
