Sarah Neufeld is a violinist and composer based in Montréal, Canada. Best known as a member of Arcade Fire, she is also a founding member of the acclaimed contemporary instrumental ensemble Bell Orchestre and has performed and recorded with many other groups, including The Luyas, Esmerine and Little Scream.

Neufeld began developing pieces for solo violin in a more formal and focused sense in 2011, though she has made improvisation and solo composition part of her process and practice since first picking up the instrument at a young age. Neufeld counts Bela Bartok, Steve Reich, Iva Bittova and Arthur Russell among the formative influences for her solo work, in tandem with an ear for the textures and sensibilities of contemporary electro-acoustic, avant-folk and indie rock music.

Neufeld’s debut solo album Hero Brother indeed channels all of the above, flowing through shifting atmospheres and oscillating between restrained, stately ambience, emotive études, and raw kinetic energy. Small touches of wordless vocalisation, harmonium and piano supplant the violin in a few places. The album was recorded in Berlin by pianist and producer Nils Frahm, with Neufeld’s performances captured in a number of locations with site-specific acoustics, including an abandoned geodesic dome, an underground parking garage, and the legendary Studio P4 orchestral recording hall at the broadcast complex of the former GDR. Hero Brother will be released on Constellation Records in August 2013.

Sarah has recently premiered her solo music at BAM (Brooklyn), the WSO New Music Festival (Winnipeg) and Wavelength Festival (Toronto), of which Exclaim magazine wrote “the highlight of the night was most certainly Sarah Neufeld, whose compositions range from Reichian to folksy without skipping a beat; she uses violin squeals, growls, scrapes and slides to express varying emotions and stomps the stage beneath her for percussion.”

Neufeld will be touring as a soloist extensively throughout 2013-2014 alongside her ongoing commitments with Arcade Fire, including a London show at Bush Hall on Sunday 26th May.

COMMENTS FROM THE SUPPORT BANDS:

“We are really honored to be opening again for Neurosis. To us there is no other thing that makes more sense than playing together. Past, present and future come together in this one moment, there in Karlsruhe. Time dissolves. And Life comes to a halt. There is nothing more powerful than this.” - CHVE, AMENRA

“No words can describe how honored we are to be asked to share the stage with Neurosis on their European tour. Their dedication to music and, most of all, their approach to their Art as a spiritual journey has influenced and inspired us greatly in music, and in life.“ - DARK BUDDHA RISING

“After years of being inspired by Neurosis, I am now truly honored to announce that Syndrome will be sharing the stage with them. On June 22nd, I will be the main support for their concert in Lint, Belgium which will be an exclusive Neurosis performance for Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxemburg.” - MATHIEU, SYNDROME

“ Terra Tenebrosa are, as anyone would be, truly honored to be opening for Neurosis. I feel our music, though different in shape and form, is two sides of the same coin. I personally would not be doing what I do today if it weren’t for Neurosis, and that is not even close to an overstatement. //Hibernal“ - TERRA TENEBROSA

“Ufomammut is honoured to share, once again, the stage in Italy with Neurosis: it’ll be a great experience of heaviness and vibes for our souls“ - URLO, UFOMAMMUT

“We feel so honored to open the swiss shows for Neurosis, the band that inspired us for years and which is certainly one of the reasons why Zatokrev exists. For me personally there’s probably not a lot out there that could make me more happy than sharing the stage with this group that developed their unique style further through for more than 25 years in such a pure and honest way.“ - ZATOKREV

In 2012 NEUROSIS returned with the monumental release of their tenth studio album, Honor Found In Decaywhich went on to receive countless plaudits from the press on a global scale, and was positioned highly in end of year polls – reaffirming why NEUROSIS remain one of the most important heavy acts in existence. Their journey continues with these European tour dates in support of this vital album, and long do we hope their voyage continues into the future…

TODAY IS THE DOPE SATURDAY YOU ALWAYS WANT TOMORROW TO BE

Dope Body come on like the animal that knows one thing and one thing only: how to get up on it any night of the week like it’s the last Saturday night on planet earth.

They’re sweetly in tune with every day of the week and all their chemical properties – so much so that any evening under the stars can turn from droll to delectably cosmic and sweat-filled, hot and sticky like an awakenings-bright beam of light, leaping through the cosmos on it’s way to change life as it is known. In fact, Dope Body are so capable of projecting their collective force through time and space, they don’t even need to be physically there – just gather your besties and spin some Dope Body tunes from your favorite albie, Natural History, or 7″ swangle, Saturday and let the perspiration pour forth as prescribed.

Let’s examine the effect as captured in this brand-spanked newest visual enhancement for Dope Body audio encounter, that of “Saturday’s” ripping double A side,“Youth Relic”, now available to watch and share: http://www.dragcity.com/artists/dope-body/videos/164

The only lesson learned, and it’s a biggie: it doesn’t matter who holds the mic, hoists the stick, or slings the guitar, nor does it matter if they’re of age… all that matters are the gutteral, basement-bound, post-wash, detergent sounds of a party – the kind only found in Dope Body musics, the kind they’ll bring to you while blazing their way across European and American continents this springly summer! Dope up.

Arkansas southern rock rabble-rousers IRON TONGUE have unleashed another soulful jam from their forthcoming album, The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown which is set for release via Neurot Recordings on May 27th in UK/EU.

The track “Lioness” is one of the standout’s on the record. It draws you in from the opening heavy and groove-laden bassline of Andy Warr and Stephanie Smittle’s alluring backing vocals, before heavy-amped guitars and Chris Terry’s rugged and powerful vocals come forth and the track explodes into an almighty rollicking rock jam.

Classic Rock are hosting “Lioness” on their website today, be sure to check it out:

http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/music_and_videos/music-iron-tongue-lioness/

Don’t forget you can also listen to “7 Days” via The Obelisk.

Fronted by Chris “CT” Terry, the founding frontman of sludge legion Rwake, IRON TONGUE formed when a group of veteran players with diverse musical backgrounds found a common interest in the need to get down and dirty and way, way gone. Featuring CT alongside guitarists Jason Tedford and Mark Chiaro, bassist Andy Warr, drummer Stan James, keyboardist JR Top and backing vocalist Stephanie Smittle, IRON TONGUE offer up a thick, soulful blend of girthy, heavy-amped, blues-based rock. IRON TONGUE aren’t singing of magical moonlit escapades. These are songs of true hurt, regret and despair reminiscent of everything from the proto-metal stomp of Blue Cheer and Grand Funk to the darkest hours of Kiss, Deep Purple, Buddy Guy and ‘Skynyrd.

The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown is produced by renowned audio sage Billy Anderson (Melvins, Sleep, Neurosis, etc) at IRON TONGUE guitarist Jason Tedford’s Wolfman Studios.

“A solid slab of balls to the wall shameless rock, with a power and an edge and soul that rarely exists in music today,” — Neurosis’ Steve Von Till

As INTEGRITY are preparing to release their tenth LP, Suicide Black Snake, another new track has uncoiled this week via Pitchfork.

While the band’s vast catalogue of albums, EPs and 7” releases have continually shown new sides to this villainous act’s sound, the intense Suicide Black Snake shows some of the most extreme musical progressions in INTEGRITY’s potent lineage. The band’s characteristic mournful harmonised guitar style, replete with huge metal solos are still very much apparent. Though on the seventh track, “There Ain’t No Living In Life” (also the albums longest track) a classic blues style and even Southern American rock elements rear their head, which infiltrate the endtime INTEGRITY message in a unique style of apocalyptic sorrow, fusing undistorted guitars, somber spoken word passages and even harmonica into a crushing and epic culmination.

Prepare for rapture with “There Ain’t No Living In Life” via Pitchfork.

The third track from Suicide Black Snake, the crushing “Beasts As Gods,” was released via A389 Records’ 2013 edition of their annual downloadable mixtape. Help yourself to this mix: http://a389recordings.bandcamp.com/album/a389-mmxiii-free-digital-mixtape-sampler

Suicide Black Snake sees worldwide release June 11th, the vinyl pressing via A389 Recordings and the CD with Magic Bullet Records. INTEGRITY will embark on an extensive tour leading up to and through the album’s release. A massive European festival assault will consume the end of July and much of August including multiple festival performances.

Further sermons on the coming of Suicide Black Snake should be expected over the coming months, along with additional INTEGRITY live actions.

Beyond an indisputable history as being an ultra brutal live act and basically being the most metal act associated with the top reigning champion acts of the 90s hardcore/metal scene, INTEGRITY has morphed into more of a musical entity, releasing countless splits and limited vinyl releases, taking back rights to seminal albums from the band’s discography and re-releasing them in proper formats, constantly enshrouded in bleak end-time/anti-life propaganda. Over time, creator Dwid Hellion has stripped the once quintet down to the bare essentials, having written and recorded solely with Robert Orr alone for the past five years, the visual and musical dimensions of INTEGRITY have grown fathoms more expansive, culminating into the most diverse album in the band’s storied existence with Suicide Black Snake.

Through their barrage of whiplashing metallic hate, psycho-drone feedback holes, and wall noise-drenched pedal attacks a noxious brew of Converge, Cursed and Pageninetynine gone the ways of Bastard Noise, early Napalm Death and Discordance Axis, FULL OF HELL’s second LP Rudiments Of Mutilation proves to be the highly-active band’s most debilitating material to date. Recorded with Kevin Bernsten at Developing Nations and mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate, Old, Phantomsmasher), Rudiments Of Mutilation captures the incredible conviction the young crew culminate live, catapulting their energetic hatesurge into the audience and inspiring all-out melees amongst the humans.

As FULL OF HELL prepares to slam through the Northeast U.S. on a new run of live attacks, the complete Rudiments Of Mutilation LP is blasting forth from the furnaces in the Terrorizer Magazine war machine’s engine room. STREAM IT HERE.

The always aspiring CHRISTINA VANTZOU has announced the details of her forthcoming audio-visual release, GOING BACKWARDS TO RECOVER THAT WHICH WAS LEFT BEHIND, a short film depicting a woman’s descent into madness, set to a haunting string and piano soundtrack composed in-house, alongside a Kickstarter campaign to aid the funding of production.

Having already cemented her reputation for expansive vision and impeccable execution with a 47 minute long serene attack on apathy in the form of her 2011 short film and album, Nº1, Vantzou’s next move, due for a public release in September of this year, is greatly anticipated.

“I’m very pleased to announce the launch of a brand new Kickstarter project.

I’m in the final stages of a second album, featuring a 12-piece ensemble, (to be released later this year!) and I’ve shifted gears back into the visual realm to develop a short film.

I’ve got a great location to shoot in, and have been developing the concept with a friend here in Brussels. In order to complete the film, I’ll need to raise $12,000. It’s ambitious, it requires a small crew to complete (mostly friends) and I have high hopes to make something I’m really proud of.”

You can find more details and back GOING BACKWARDS TO RECOVER THAT WHICH WAS LEFT BEHIND here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2082985573/going-backwards-to-recover-that-which-was-left-behy

A follow up to Nº1 (released on Kranky) is expected by the end of the year.

The good news just keeps on coming this week as Dragged Into Sunlight have just been announced to play 2013′s Incubate Festival in Tilburg this September, joining the likes of Immortal, Mayhem, Brutal Truth, Neige Morte and more.

Furthermore, have you got a burning question for Dragged Into Sunlight that hasn’t yet been put to them? On 7 May at approximately 7pm GMT onwards, they will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Cheech and Chong / Kylesa by taking part in Reddit’s AMA - a great chance to try and unlock some of the mysteries that surround them.

As a reminder, in a few weeks time, Dragged Into Sunlight will be unleashing their extreme sounds to unsuspecting audiences across the UK and Ireland – the first time in three years they have toured across home soil. Joining the carnage are experimental juggernauts Bossk - completing this lethal yet thrilling combination. Here is a reminder of the dates and recently announced festival appearances:

*Dragged Into Sunlight only, Bossk are not playing this show

Widowmaker is their latest album – a viciously haunting voyage into the macabre. This eerie masterpiece pieces together a colossal atmosphere belonging as much to the Swans or Neurosis as it does to Autopsy and Burning Witch. A rewarding, often beautiful and more often than not disturbing proposition, this album is one of the most powerful pieces of music to emerge in recent years from a band who really are at the forefront of British extreme metal.

Live footage from Dragged Into Sunlight’s appearance at Maryland Deathfest 2012 has also just been published, this film footage brilliantly captures the intensity and blood-curdling brutality of their live performance: http://tinyurl.com/disdeathfest. Don’t forget you can watch and share the tour trailer as the UK live shows loom.

”The fluid and open – yet surprisingly concise songwriting takes the listener on a downbeat yet thoroughly engaging voyage. And that’s not hyperbole…a surprisingly memorable and…enjoyable listen, the entrancing and emotive clean guitars, huge riffs, crashing percussion and potent vocal work.“ - RECORD COLLECTOR

“One of the most immersive and harrowing extreme metal bands in the UK“ - METAL HAMMER

“Dragged Into Sunlight tap into something primal and raw. It’s hate done with a smile on the faces of the sadistic purveyors and that’s the most dangerous kind of all; the ones who truly enjoy what they’re doing.” - TERRORIZER

“Part II and Part III lunge for the throat: 25 of the heaviest, darkest minutes anyone will produce this year…Yes it’s vicious and it’s ugly just like Hatred For Mankind was, but it’s also slow and drugged out and mercilessly pounding – it is, in short, Dragged into Sunlight’s take on the most horrid doom. It’s a long way down, and you’ll enjoy every second of the fall.” - ROCK A ROLLA

“It’s rare almost to the point of myth that you get a band and a piece of music like Dragged Into Sunlight and Widowmaker; something that you truly feel you’ve been waiting almost your entire life to hear, something that is so genuinely mysterious and righteous yet utterly, purposefully, repellent and totally lacking in pretension. Here they have crafted such a consuming and permeating piece of work that veers from Earth like alt. country meanders and bone dry and brittle, almost haunting, Nick Cave/Warren Ellis-ish atmospherics, to crushing, Neurosis-grazing levels of relentless yet textured and flowing punishment to collapsing walls of static-drenched noise. And there’s a distinct black metal edge here too, in the anguished vocals. Real, threatening black metal, like it used to be. It sounds genuinely dangerous… it probably is genuinely dangerous, and you just don’t get enough of that in metal anymore.” - QUIETUS

“For an album that started with an uncharacteristically melodic instrumental, Widowmaker soon proved to be one hell of a heavy hitting album. Few bands can adequately purvey the sense of dread, despair and doom that Dragged Into Sunlight do, and after sitting through the album you’ll most likely wonder how the band members can create music that evil. Widowmaker is certainly an experience, as well as an album, and it’s one that drags you through the deepest, darkest recesses of humanity, and keep you there well and truly after it’s over.” - GHOST CULT

“Widowmaker defines intensity in heavy music. It is unequivocally one of the highlights of this or any other year.” - THRASH HITS

“One of the finest metal releases of the year, and provides further evidence of Dragged into Sunlight’s position as key standard bearers for what is truly ‘extreme’. You can keep your poser corpse painted black metal for as long as you want; this is where extremity is really at.” - STEREOBOARD

“The sheer level of musicianship and creativity displayed is mind boggling too. Everything is tight as a drum, honed to perfection like a weapon designed solely to destroy with maximum casualties. The vocalist uses his voice like an instrument in itself, at times he crackles and hacks demonically like dry wood being snapped and bricks being bashed together, other times it’s a deep, teeth rattling growl like the earth splitting open and collapsing in on itself. Constantly switching between these and other styles, it’s a compelling and brutal performance.” - TIGHT TO THE NAIL

Eagle Twin merges the talents of guitarist Gentry Densley (of legendary post-hardcore/jazz icons, Iceburn) with the thunderous percussion of Tyler Smith (formerly of Form of Rocket). Gentry is also a member of Ascend, the heavy doom collaboration with Greg Anderson and an all-star heavy music cast also featuring members of Sunn 0))), Earth, Mayhem, Soundgarden, and Void (Tyler also notably plays on their record). Following a cult split 7″ with Night Terror in 2009, Eagle Twins’ incredibly potent and unique multi-faceted approach became apparent to the world when their debut album, The Unkindness of Crows, stormed doom and experimental music fans later that year.

Their most recent opus, The Feather Tipped the Serpent’s Scale, picks up right where the band’s acclaimed debut LP left off. In this installment, the crows documented in the first album have battled the sun and were burned back down to earth as black snakes, the concept of the album continuing mainly on the snake and its various mythic and symbolic incarnations. Ultimately, the great ancestral snake is transformed from its lowly beginnings back into a bird soaring upon the thermals. Recorded with Randall Dunn at London Bridge Studio (as with the first album), the record boasts some of the most mesmerizing and monstrous riff transformations from Eagle Twin to date.

“Never anything less than completely stunning.” - 8/10 ROCKSOUND

“One of the year’s most impressive and spectacular albums.“ - ROCK A ROLLA

“Eagle Twin unleash some of the most enormously fuzzy riffs known to humanity, pinning you down as they plod slowly into mire of oppressive hopelessness…so damn compelling.“ - 4K KERRANG

“As much Sabbathian riff worship as it was a Melvins-esque percussive bludgeon“ - METAL HAMMER

“Viscous and colossal riffage…With a certain dash of mystical resonance granting these gruff hymns a ceremonial ambience, the red glow of these heavyweights’ amp tubes is only matched by the volcanic lava of their racket.“ - TERRORIZER

“Massive earth-shaking riffs, low, rumbling vocals, tortured lyrical sentiments, and enough dreary doom to darken the skies above…this is a proto-sludge take on cataclysmic doom metal.“ - BIG CHEESE

“If Eagle Twin are about nothing else they’re about groove; it’s the power of the riff that compels you…much like you can’t explain how it is that Meshuggah so precisely manipulate your neck to jerk, metronome like, throughout their often baffling assaults, so too do Eagle Twin accomplish the same result through the unbelievable tightness and understanding between Densley and drummer Tyler Smith, despite the myriad of confusing rhythms. I…love it when power duos get it this right.“ - QUIETUS
